Doug Smith is a General Practitioner at Banchory Group Practice and a GP with a Specialist Interest in Dermatology at Aberdeen Royal Infirmary. He qualified from the University of Dundee with first class honours in Forensic Medicine in 1993 and Bachelor of Medicine and Surgery in 1996. He became a member of the Royal College of General Practitioners in 2000.
He has worked within the dermatology Department at Aberdeen Royal Infirmary since 1998, and has been a practising General Practitioner since 1999. He completed further postgraduate training in dermatology at The University of Cardiff in 2004 qualifying with a Diploma in Practical Dermatology. He has undertaken minor surgical procedures within NHS Grampian for the last 15 years and is a member of the Primary Care Dermatology Society.
Dr Smith offers consultations for dermatological problems such as acne, rosacea, eczema, psoriasis, hyperhidrosis, skin cancers, mole and skin lesion checks and hair loss.
He is currently involved with Malignant Melanoma research at the University of Aberdeen. Dr Smith is a Honorary Lecturer at University of Aberdeen, where he teaches and is an examiner for undergraduate Medical and Physician’s Assistant students. He lectures in Primary Care Dermatology to postgraduate doctors and on behalf of the Royal College of General Practitioners.
He was a member of the team involved in the creation of the SIGN guideline: Management of Atopic Eczema in Primary Care.
